Bird Study at the Faro – Olhão WWTP
Between 2018 and 2019, we monitored bird movements associated with the Implementation Project for the Faro-Olhão Intermunicipal Water Interception and Treatment System. This bird-focused study covered an annual cycle, allowing us to gather information about bird movements and movements in the project’s area of influence and its surroundings. This study aimed to support the decision to convert the lagoons of the former Olhão-Poente and Faro-Nascente WWTPs, allowing them to be returned to their natural state while safeguarding the safety of Faro Airport. This study involved conducting bird censuses based on observation points, as well as a radar study to determine bird movements on a broader scale.
